Castle Vale Vicar
Castle Vale struggles to find its spiritual heart.

Overview
A small town requires religious guidance and it was Fred Carroll who took up the role of vicar at Castle Vale - a new development that, in 1966, had few residents to form Fred's flock. But that was the least of his worries as his parish also lacked a church. Forced to conduct his services in a local school he struggled on to create a sense of community in this burgeoning town.
The Castle Vale estate was built on the site of the former RAF Castle Bromwich from 1965 to 1970. Much of the estate was demolished in the 2000s.
