Bromyard lost its railway line but is it about to lose its very existence?

The last train stopped at Bromyard in September 1964 and by December of the following year, when these scenes were shot for the news programme ATV Today, the track is gone and an air of neglect is in the air. As we can see, concerns over the future of the high street is not a new phenomenon as the camera lingers over the 'closed' and 'to let' signs. With the local county office offering welfare food we can see that it will be a subdued Christmas at Bromyard.

Bromyard bounced back from the loss of its railway line. Like many other towns that suffered when traditional industries and the old ways fell into decline tourism, locally sourced food and a vibrant community life took over. The Herefordshire market town now prides itself as being known as 'the Town of Festivals'.
