The Cut
The Cut is a monthly series of nine short films where cultural creators reveal the independent films that have changed their lives and made them think.
Designer Es Devlin started the ball rolling in January 2018, with Professor Brian Cox continuing the run in February. Ben Bailey Smith discussed his cinematic inspirations in March and architect Richard Rogers revealed his thoughts on three classic films in April. In May, fashion designer Bella Freud unveils the films that have influenced her life and work, while back in June artist and photographer Juno Calypso delved into the social realism of Andrea Dunbar and the surrealism of Yorgos Lanthimos. In July UK hip-hop stalwart Loyle Carner chose a hilarious music documentary, two great British comedies and a modern US classic. For the penultimate episode DJ and record boss stalwart Gilles Peterson discussed four fine and funky films all based on great music. In the final episode, Scissor Sisters pop hero and robot book author Ana Matronic chose two sci-fi classics and two sharp slices of contemporary drama.
