Overview
The reputation of Britain's students for high jinks and unprovoked revelry has deep roots - and the newsreels were happy to do their bit to cement the stereotypes. This is one of numerous items focusing on the spirited chaos that is the annual rag week - here it's the turn of Liverpool, but any university town could offer a similar spectacle. The film begins with a mock-solemn ceremony, before quickly descending - as these things will - to a messy free-for-all.
