Road safety guidance for kids from Tufty the squirrel and friends
No animals were harmed in the making of this film! Tufty the squirrel and his friend Bobby Brown Rabbit avoid a potentially fatal collision with a toy car thanks to some sound guidance from Mrs Fluffytail in this classic public information filler commissioned by the Central Office of Information. This outing for the much-loved road safety rodent bypasses the (mild) shock tactics of other films in the Tufty series, choosing instead to gently remind its young audience of the existence of 'lollypop men' (not women?) and zebra crossings.
Tufty charmed and instructed of generations children, first in a series of illustrated books created by Elsie Mills for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), then in a network of 'Tufty Clubs' with a membership reaching two million and finally in this series of short films from 1973, which continued to appear throughout the 70s and beyond.
