Tuberculosis Sanatorium at Ulverston

Fresh air is good for you - by order of your doctor.

At the High Carley tuberculosis sanatorium, opened in 1916 in the clean Lakeland air, we follow a patient from admission to release, months later. This film is a fascinating record of the medical treatment of its day; in the days before vaccines and antibiotics, rest and fresh air were the only effective treatment for this highly infectious disease, which disproportionately affected young adults.
