Overview

Chris Tarrant, early in his television career, meets 89-year-old Alf Tabb at Aldersley Stadium in Wolverhampton. Alf, from Kidderminster, has brought over a selection of his tiny home-made bicycles and bets that nobody can ride them. Chris puts up the money but who will take up the challenge?

Alf Tabb's life was permeated by cycling from birth. Born in 1883 his father was a frame builder. At 13 he was delivering newspapers on his bike in London and in the late 1930s he started to make miniature bicycles by hand. He died in 1976 having never lost his £5 bet.
