Overview
A film of Yorkshire racing car driver Trevor Twaites made by Trevor’s friend, fellow racer and filmmaker George Duncan of Leeds at the Rufforth circuit, just west of York. Trevor is driving a newly built Chevrolet Lola T330 in its first competitive year, before going on to many successes. Trevor might be racing in the Formula Libre race, while other races feature converted road cars, Mark I Escorts and Mini Coopers, possibly in an RAC York branch Battle of Britain race.
This film is part of a collection of motor racing films focusing on Twaites. They were made by Duncan for the British Racing & Sports Car Club. They also feature Elvington and Croft circuits. Trevor Twaites raced in the 1960s and 70s giving up racing in 1975 to take over his father’s Woodkirk Garage on Dewsbury Road, Morley. Like other circuits Rufforth was on the site of a former airfield built during the war, opening in 1959 and closing in 1978. Twaites won the RAC Sports Car Championship in 1970 and entered four races in the Rothmans 5000 in 1973, gaining no points. A restored T330 HU6, which was shared with Brendan McInerny, raced as recently as August 2015. Twaites died in 2010 at the relatively early age of 66.
