It says something about conditions in the British trenches by early 1915 that the ranks found it impossible to keep matches dry enough to use. The solution - bring back old flint-knapping skills to supply the troops with tinder boxes. The film shows the process of making the flints and a soldier demonstrating, with a bit of effort, how to light your fag the old-fashioned way.
