The Rabbit Catcher
Rabbiting is a way of life for the Rabbit Catcher
In partnership with:

Overview
TV reporter Clive Gunnell joins the rabbit catcher who is filmed in the woods with three dogs and a ferret as they stalk a rabbit warren. The rabbit catcher has been catching rabbits in the area for three years. Rabbiting has long since been a sport using various trapping or killing methods. Ferreting is the primary way of catching rabbits in the UK, using nets or shotguns to catch the rabbits when they bolt from their burrows.
A ferret usually a female one or jill moves around the burrow causing the rabbit to bolt into a purse net that ensnares the rabbit which is then dispatched. Dogs may also grab the exiting rabbit. Rabbiting is used for controlling the population because they cause damage to crops but also rabbits are sold as game during the hunting season from November to March.
