The Devon County Show Post War
This year's show sees the expansion of electrical items
In partnership with:
Overview
South West Electricity Board has set up stalls and tents at the Devon County Show in Wadebridge to demonstrate the uses of electricity to the public. New technical equipment such as fridges and farm equipment are the prime exhibits during this year’s county show.
After the Second World War a quarter of homes did not have electricity but by the 1950s many new appliances were on offer. Fridges replaced ice and larders. TV sets became more common and washing machines started to take the place of washing pots and mangles. Lighting and new machinery for agricultural use all had an effect on farming, village and town communities alike.
