The 5-inch Siege Guns Crossing Vaal River

Boer war soldiers play at cowboys, as long teams of oxen are harnessed to keep heavy siege guns moving

Non-Fiction 1900 2 mins Silent

Overview

A herd of oxen are going great guns to move these heavy siege artillery onwards. Though on the cusp of the modern era, it's notable that ancient methods are still employed to carry the British army from A to B. Early war cameraman Joe Rosenthal filmed both a crossing on the Vaal and Naval Gun Crossing the Vet River around 24 May 1900, and this may be the latter film. Look out for the carefree dog following the convoy, who's in real danger of getting his tail run over.
