Sports and Family Day 1954

It's all the fun of the fair as workers of Peterborough diesel firm, F.Perkins Ltd, and their families are treated to a day to remember.

Frank Perkins, the powerhouse behind diesel engine manufacturers, F Perkins Ltd founded the company in 1932. By the time this film was made, the business had moved to a massive production site at Eastfield and was the largest employer in the the city, supplying engines the world over. Perkins strongly believed their success was down to the Perkins people and valued the loyalty of a happy and devoted workforce.

This film records a special day organised for the Perkins workforce and their families as a reward for their hard work and loyal service. With more than 10,000 visitors expected, buses are laid on to ferry the guests to the site for an afternoon of fair ground rides, racing and team building. This was a time when the workers could relax and have fun, courtesy of the company, and feel good to be part of such a successful organisation.
