Overview

Prince George – later the Duke of Kent – was the guest of honour on 30th September 1933, presenting the Charter of Incorporation to the mayor as Southgate became a municipal borough. This Pathé film captures the Prince’s speech to cheering crowds as well as those given by other officials. The day featured festivities and fireworks, with the Duke visiting local landmarks and watching sporting displays from schoolchildren.
