Soldiers March along a Road

Troops on the move - but are they destined for the battlefield?

Non-Fiction 1900 1 mins

Overview

As marches go, this is a relatively casual one, and some smiling faces suggest life in the army isn't all bad. Look out, in particular, for the young lad at the rear of the marching band. Barely older than the boys stalking alongside, he seems particularly proud, perhaps thinking of who might see him in his uniform thanks to the wonder of the cinematograph. The barracks building in the background suggest that this lot, unlike many other marching soldiers of the time, haven't yet been chosen to head to war in South Africa.
