Royal Leinster Regiment Halifax

A brisk drill on a cold winter's day

1900 1 mins Silent

Overview

You can feel the chill in the air in these wintry images. At least the soldiers have found a way to keep warm. At the time this film was shot - on WKL Dickson's unique 68mm large-format stock, which accounts for the unusually sharp picture - the whole of Ireland was still very much part of the Union, and the Royal Leinster Regiment saw service at the tail-end of the second Boer War.
