Robbie (Overhead Lines)
Cheggers tells the tale of a promising young footballer come a cropper in this British Transport Films safety film for kids
Overview
Poor Robbie. His footballing skills and railway savvy can't save him from his mean big brother, who chucks his precious boots on the overhead wires. In following his doomed attempt to retrieve them, this British Transport Films production uses the full arsenal of shock tactics with relish. The cutaway to a screaming sister and the ever-so-fleeting glimpse of scorched flesh are typical of such films precisely because they are so effective (and cheap).
Three variations of the film were made to cover third rail and non-electric lines, and they were originally released in 1979 with Peter Purves as the presenter. These 1986 rereleases unleash the mighty Keith 'Cheggers' Chegwin to make sure they still speak to their young target audience.
