Richard Brookes Collection: Statue of Liberty & Wedding, New York and London
From the Richard Brookes Collection, this Super 8 short features Richard and Lyn Brookes returning from New York for their wedding in Ilford.
From the collection of:

Overview
A home movie made by Redbridge residents Richard and Lyn Brookes in 1971, this film begins with shots of the Statue of Liberty filmed from the boat and then abruptly shifts to Ilford, for their wedding day. Lyn Brookes is shown leaving the house with her mother and other relatives.
The Brookes, who met at a bridge club, had married in 1971 but spent two years in the US, where Richard worked on computerising hotel booking systems. When they returned to London, they decided to wed again in Ilford so the family could attend. Lyn has explained how all aspects of the wedding were controlled by their parents, who were footing the bill. The couple themselves couldn’t even choose who went on the guest list.
