Overview
Prior to his marriage to Lady Diana Spencer on 29/7/1981, Prince Charles paid a visit to Rhayader and Noel Lewis of Gaufron, who held the tenancy of the Elan Valley Hotel, and his son Alan, who later bought the hotel, turned out with a camera, despite the rain, to capture footage of this royal visit. The prince’s 6-hour tour of Powys, which also included visits to Llansantffraid and Newbridge-on-Wye, was his last official engagement in Wales as a bachelor.
