This insightful 1969 documentary explores the working methods of three contemporary artists. Bob Campbell, art teacher, spends his free time fascinated by "light through leaf and branch"; his abstract paintings have an organic theme. Ken Cuthbert, government inspector, is interested in industrial structures, buildings and decay, while designer David Hazelwood expresses himself through textural collage.

This intriguing and inspiring film celebrates the freedom of the modern artist to work without the need of patronage. As narrator Richard Baker asserts, "each will make his own comment on the world he knows".
