Overview

At the tail end of the nineteen fifties, amateur filmmaker Brian Cheesman captures Norwich, focusing on the lively annual fairground and then many of the once-loved or frequently used buildings by the city’s inhabitants, including Curls and Bonds Department Stores, Norwich Castle, the Old Norfolk & Norwich Hospital, the still existing Adam & Eve pub – widely claimed to be the oldest pub in the city, and Norvic Shoe Company HQ – evidence of Norwich’s shoemaking heritage.

Cine enthusiast Mr Cheesman lived on Sewell Road in Norwich. He never married, or had any children, neither did he have any siblings. He lived with his mother and father until their deaths (father 1959, mother c.1993) and was employed by Norwich Union throughout his entire working life. He was a member of a church on Constitution Hill, Norwich.
