Overview

In the late nineteen fifties, amateur filmmaker Brian Cheesman captures the well-loved areas of Norwich. This reel features the tradition of tobogganing on Mousehold in the Winter snow, and Magdalen Street’s shops. Magdalen Street has, over the years, been a site of development and redevelopment over the years, always retaining a character for which many Norwich citizens are particularly fond. There’s also a wonderful carnival procession through Castle Meadow.

Cine enthusiast Mr Cheesman lived on Sewell Road in Norwich. He never married, or had any children, neither did he have any siblings. He lived with his mother and father until their deaths (father 1959, mother c.1993) and was employed by Norwich Union throughout his entire working life. He was a member of a church on Constitution Hill, Norwich.
