Mining Review 13th Year No. 1
The smallest public passenger railway in the world is a coal user, though small locomotives need small chunks for their fires.
Overview
This edition of the Mining Review cinemagazine take us to Kellingley Colliery, where we witness the laying of the foundation stone for one of the UK’s most modern collieries. Kellingley sadly closed in December 2015 as the last of Britain’s deep coal mines. A trip on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway in Kent lightens the mood, putting the spotlight on the small users of coal - the nearby Kent colliery product is ideally suited for these little locomotives. Elsewhere, Durham has a solution for the excess water found in the pits and Derbyshire coal miners can be found in some of England’s county and national cricket teams.
