Lord Kitchener's Arrival at Southampton - July 12th
Horatio Herbert Kitchener gets an enviable welcome on his return from the Second Boer War.
Overview
There are only a handful of surviving films featuring the man behind the iconic 'Lord Kitchener Wants You' recruitment poster - and few offer more of a contrast with that solemn, arresting image than this. An almost relaxed-looking Kitchener arrives at the port of Southampton, fresh from victory in the Second Boer War, and on his way to a rapturous London reception; is there even a glimpse of a smile under that mighty moustache?
