LMS at Work in the Tamil Field of South India. Salem. No.2
The development and educational work of the London Missionary Society in Tamil Nadu
Overview
This is an absorbing - and well-photographed - account of the work of the London Missionary Society in district of Salem, Tamil Nadu. The focus is on education (the LMS runs various schools locally) and rural development (the film firmly positions Christianity as a civilising force in the area). Made by clergyman Wilfrid Le Cato Edwards, this is one of some 70 LMS films filmed in various parts of the world. They were effectively amateur productions but screened to interested audiences for educational purposes.
LMS at Work in the Telugu Field of South India, shot around the same time, is also available on BFI Player.
