Overview

Eager crowds perch atop city centre walls and in Roundhay Park in Leeds to view a procession and water carnival raising funds for the lifeboat movement. The events included a demonstration by lifeboat crews from Yorkshire's Robin Hood's Bay and Caister in Norfolk. In the previous year, nine members of the Caister lifeboat crew had died during a rescue attempt off the Norfolk coast.
