Writer, director and performer Amrou Al-Kadhi talks to Rico Johnson-Sinclair about their debut feature.
Layla charts the relationship of a Palestinian-British drag performer, Layla, and their white, straightlaced new love interest, Max. Amrou explains how their experience of performing in drag as "Glamrou" influences their film-making, why it was important to show a queer Arab character who was multi-faceted and how, while filming Layla's sex scenes, they wanted to make consent sexy.
Amrou and Rico discuss Layla in its entirety. We recommend that you watch Layla on BFI Player before watching this video.
