With an established garage business, the King & Harper partnership was keen to explore new markets to satisfy the post war optimism of customers in and around Cambridge.
As well as being a cycling and motor pioneer, businessman and talented amateur filmmaker, William King also had a great eye for publicity. This promotional film made with his son Ken, showcases the services and new, exciting products available in the various King & Harper stores. In particular, the motorised bicycle filmed as it departs one of their outlets and heads off through the city to a 'customer's' house being attended by the King & Harper service van.
King & Harper also offer state of the art TVs, recently available to the mass market and refrigerators and other 'white goods' which many at the time could not afford but simply aspire to. With the ticket price marked at Ј95.12.2 for a 'Kelvinaire' refrigerator, costing nearly Ј3,000 at today's rate, this was an expensive way to keep your cool!
