Dramatised appeal film on behalf of Papworth Village Settlement, which supports people with tuberculosis
Overview
A radiant Madeleine Carroll introduces a dramatised appeal film on behalf of Papworth Village Settlement, near Cambridge, which supports people with tuberculosis. Tom, a young married man, is shocked to be diagnosed with TB. He loses all hope for the future until his local vicar tells him about Papworth. Tom relocates there and is impressed with all that it offers; as well as medical attention, it's not long before he and his wife, Betty, are offered a "darling cottage".
Papworth Village Settlement is now known as Papworth Hospital, and is the UK's main centre for lung transplants. Madeleine Carroll had a successful stage and screen career in the UK and Hollywood, and is perhaps best known for her starring role in Hitchcock's The 39 Steps (1935).
