Gunfire rains down over the landscape targeting enemy vehicles on the ground in this aerial footage, the view from the gun camera of USAAF fighter planes active during World War 2.
Footage captured by a gun camera mounted on aircraft flown by the lieutenants and captains of the 56th Fighter Group of the United States Air Force. Obtained during a mission flown from Boxted Airfield, Langham, which was the base of the 56th from April 1944 to October 1945. Footage provides an excellent view of the manoeuvers performed by the planes on which the gun cameras were mounted, though the vibration created by the guns results in poor image quality.
Previous to RAF Boxted the 56th Fighter Group was based at Halesworth and before that at Horsham St Faith (Norwich airport). It would later be based at RAF Honington.
