'Gold Cup' Race at Ascot
The fashions, the royalty, the parades - and the hats... It's a wonder there's any time for racing at Royal Ascot.
Overview
And they're off! The many delights and distractions of Royal Ascot occasionally leave a window for some horseracing to take place. The Gold Cup is the prestige flat race for the long distance specialists of the equine world, with already over a century's tradition by the time of this 1912 newsreel item. The Topical Budget newsreel was not yet a yearling, but wthe key moments of Prince Palatine's victory are all efficiently caught on film.
