Family Films presents 'Our Daily Bread'
To be Head Vienna Chef Baker at the Savoy you had to be pretty good at baking and Alex Bax thought his father-in-law's talents worthy of a film production.

Overview
Engineer and amateur film enthusiast Alex Bax would always have his camera to hand and, at holiday times, would delight in commandeering his, sometimes, less than enthusiastic children to star in his films. 'Our Daily Bread' was made on location near Hemsby, Norfolk just before the war and in the Savoy kitchens, London. The result was a wonderful film of how wheat turns to bread and all things delicious!
For many young city children, a summer holiday on a farm, riding horses and giving a helping hand to the workers would have been their idea of heaven and for 10 year old Margaret Bax, her 5 year old brother Robert and cousins, it looks as though it was! Farmer Cargill at Castle Farm, Caister was happy for his farm to be used as a film set as amateur cameraman, Alex Bax filmed his family in scenes of the harvest, threshing and milling as his summer 'production' of 'Our Daily Bread'. Returning to London, Alex visits the famous Savoy kitchens to film his father-in-law, Chef Peter Fordyce, at work. The final scenes of delicious fresh bread and jam being devoured by hungry youngsters had been pre shot on holiday in Hemsby.
