Droitwich Brine Baths
With ten times the salt of sea water, the brine baths at Droitwich Spa are prized for their health benefits. But are they at risk from cuts?
From the collection of:
Overview
Droitwich was developed as a spa town exploiting its natural spring water and salt deposits in the 19th century. By 1975, when Peter Plant visited for ATV Today, that Victorian infrastructure was looking decidedly rusty and the local council had called time on the historic St Andrew's baths. People who had enjoyed the health benefits of the saline water were less than pleased.
A privately run Droitwich brine baths took over in the 1980s but was closed again in 2008. Interest in brine continues in Droitwich with proposals to build a 'brine experience' to celebrate the town's salty history.
