Overview
The Black Cats bring Preston North End players bad luck in the 1937 FA Cup Final at Wembley. Captain Raich Carter loses the toss. But, after exciting play in the second half, the Sunderland football squad climb the 39 steps to collect the winner’s trophy from a new King and Queen. The final score was 3 – 1. This is rare footage of Sunderland’s first ever FA Cup victory, which documents goals by Frank O’Donnell (Preston), Bobby Gurney, Raich Carter and Eddie Burbanks.
