Chingford Carnival Procession 1964

Children and adults alike soak up the festive atmosphere as they wave ribbon wands, horse around and make merry at a north-east London carnival

A brief, joyful account of the 1964 Chingford Carnival with all its delightful colours and sights. Focusing on the procession, the filmmaker does an artful job of detailing the floats, as well as street scenes and festive atmosphere. The steady stream of carnival traffic includes Chigford Rotary's "steamboat" float, vintage cars carrying elegantly dressed passengers and Noah's Ark, complete with coupled-up cardboard giraffes, crocodiles and a flood warning poster.
