Children at Seaside

Join Edwardian family the Passmores for a wintry trip to the beach in this charming early home movie

Home movie 1902 1 mins Silent

Overview

Young Brian, Mavis and Margaret Passmore and friends are bundled up Edwardian-style in all manner of fluffy capes and hats for some fun on the beach in this very early amateur film. The girls dig away energetically, aided by a coterie of nannies - but poor Brian looks rather unimpressed to be plonked atop the sandcastle like an angel on a Christmas tree.

We can't be sure who filmed this outing, but it was probably the Passmore children's father, Alfred Ernest Passmore. His films of his family from 1902 and 1903 are some of the earliest known home movies in the world.
