Overview

This is a really good overview of mid 70's Norwich giving a comprehensive history of the city's origins and heritage still very much evident in the bustling streets of a very modern, regional centre. The film focuses on the industry, growth and development of the city to keep up with everchanging demands for housing and traffic and the expansion outside the city to accommodate industrial estates, council offices, the livestock market and the University of East Anglia.

We visit a boot and shoe factory - an industry which, at the time, provided thousands of jobs and see the mustard jars being packed at Colman's - a company that has stood the test of time and markets. On the streets are once household names of shops like Saxone and Belfast Linen. Founded in 1946, Suffolk based Boulton-Hawker Films Ltd. worked in association with the Educational Foundation for Visual Aids to produce a large number of films for educational programmes for use in schools, colleges and universities. They were distributed around the world.
