Overview

Anglers flocked from all over the Eastern Counties to compete in the 1st Annual Angling competition sponsored by Steward & Patterson. This was a serious business with entrants drawing numbers for their 'pegs' along the banks before they set in for the 5 hour test on their patience, skill and perhaps hoping for a bit of luck too! This film is courtesy of Norwich Cine Society who were most probably commissioned by the sponsors to record the event to be shown around the region.

The winning team were from the Oddfellows Pub in King's Lynn -Messrs Stan Careless, F.C. Hornigold, R.E.Patrick, C.Stevens, G.T. Bear and E. Taylor with a combined catch weight of 36lbs - with runners up from Castle Inn, Boston, Lincs weighing in at 34lbs 8oz. There were 2 women amongst the anglers too - Miss B Breese of Aylsham and Miss Mason of Dilham and the oldest competitor was Mr Alfred Mears of Gorleston at 85 years young.
