Anglers' Competition at Richmond
Gangway! A posse of 350 anglers charge through Richmond in a race to take up the best position before a fishing competition.
From the collection of:
Overview
Bottle-swigging, pipe-smoking anglers take up their positions for the day on a foggy Thames-side path in Richmond, having raced each other through the streets to get the best positions. Around 350 anglers took part in this competition held in aid of the Anglers’ Benevolent Society. Note the heavy, unwieldy, poles compared with today’s light-weight fishing equipment.
