Without Love
Ruthless young journalist, Ewa, is forced to reflect on her behaviour when a young woman’s life is put at risk in this tough and uncompromising slice of social realism.
Director: Barbara Sass-Zdort
Overview
Ewa, a young journalist (brilliantly played by Dorota Stalińska) knows no boundaries in pushing forwards her career. Crashing through all the gender stereotypes she is nonetheless forced to reflect on her behavior when a young woman’s life is put at risk. A tough and uncompromising slice of social realism shot by distinguished cinematographer Wiesław Zdort this film was the first of three by Sass to star Stalińska, challenging perceptions of female centred cinema.
Winning the award for best directorial feature debut at the Polish Film Festival in 1980 Without Love marked the arrival of the distinct talent of Barbara Sass. Positioning strong, independent contemporary women centre stage, acknowledging their flaws, she made a significant impact on the male dominated Polish culture. Seweryn Krajewski’s striking score adds to the tension in this memorable psychological drama.
