The Swindle (Rien ne va plus)

Isabelle Huppert is on sparkling form as one of a pair of con artists grifting their way across France, cheating gamblers out of their winnings.

Although rather ill-matched as a couple, con artists Victor and Betty are a perfect team when it comes to cheating gamblers out of their winnings. But Betty - a master of the art of seduction - has a bigger scheme in mind: double-crossing a man out of millions of Swiss francs belonging to organized crime. While the plan sounds airtight, Victor suspects a double cross.

With a sparkling performance from Isabelle Huppert as Betty, Chabrol’s film is notably lighter and more playful than his other works, but a cold edge remains. It’s a caper film that understands, as all the best ones do, that the line between predator and prey is always thinner than it seems. Contains scenes of graphic violence and injury.
