The Fever

Justino is a security guard at the Port of Manaus. As his daughter prepares for medical school in Brasilia, he begins to develop a mysterious fever.

Manaus is an industrial city surrounded by the Amazon rainforest. Justino, 45 years old and a native Desana, works as a security guard at the cargo port. A widower, he lives with his youngest daughter, Vanessa, in a modest house on the outskirts of town. When Vanessa is offered a place to study medicine in Brasilia, Justino's health starts to deteriorate.

Confronted with the oppression of the city, where he never quite fits in, and the distance of his native village from which he left twenty years ago, Justino finds himself sick and condemned to an existence without any sense of belonging. Meanwhile, news reports emerge about a wild animal lurking in the neighbourhood...
