Director: Lars von Trier
Overview
Volume 1 of Lars von Trier’s explicit, controversial film about a woman recounting the history of her sexuality in episodic style. The self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), is discovered beaten and abandoned in an alleyway by a charming old bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård). He brings her home to his flat and she begins recounting stories from her wild and transgressive life, which is punctuated with shocking sexual encounters from birth to the age of 50.
Lars von Trier has yet again corralled a high-calibre cast to take part in his latest opus, including Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman , Jamie Bell and Willem Defoe. You can now decide for yourselves whether the famously provocative director has gone too far or is successfully testing the boundaries of taste…
