Marriage Italian Style
Sophia Loren and Marcelo Mastroianni are irrepressible as a long-married couple in this exquisite and timeless comedy of our all-too-human foibles.
Comedy 1964 97 mins
Director: Vittorio De Sica
Overview
Loren and Mastroianni revel in their fiery roles as Filumena and Domenico, who first meet when he visits the Neapolitan brothel where she works during WWII and embark on an affair and a marriage which is undermined, over more than two decades by Domenico's philandering.
The great Italian director Vittorio De Sica (Bicycle Thieves) adapted the film one of the most successful Italian plays ever, Filumena Marturano by playwright and philosopher Eduardo De Filippo, which was first brought to UK by Franco Zeffirelli, and later showcased by Peter Hall with Dame Judy Dench.
