Just a Gigolo
David Bowie stars as the soldier-turned-drifter-turned-dancer for rent, in David Hemmings' Berlin melodrama set at the end of the Great War.
Director: David Hemmings
Overview
After playing the alien for Nicholas Roeg, David Bowie starred for David Hemmings in this Berlin melodrama set as the Great War ends. He’s the soldier-turned-drifter-turned-dancer for rent, paid by newly-widowed women like Kim Novak to lift their sadness. Marlene Dietrich emerged from retirement for a (extravagantly remunerated) cameo performing the title song. This newly remastered version offers a chance to reappraise Bowie’s unjustly forgotten starring role.
