Bless Their Little Hearts was written by Killer of Sheep director Charles Burnett, who alongside Woodberry was a member of the LA Rebellion, an African-American film movement founded at UCLA in the late 1960s. Burnett also shot the film using his characteristically sublime black and white cinematography style.
