A Lonely Cow Weeps at Dawn
In this bizarre erotic family drama, a young widow pretends to be a cow for her senile father-in-law, who's a farmer.
Director: Daisuke Gotô
Overview
A young widow, Noriko, lives with her senile father-in-law, Shukichi, on a farm. He believes his favorite cow, long gone, is still alive. Noriko pretends to be the cow and lets him milk her - a satisfying arrangement for them both. Shukichi's daughter discovers their bizarre relationship and tries to put an end to it.
Director Daisuke Gotō is a prime exponent of the 'Pink film' genre, Japan's idiosyncratic take on softcore erotica. Despite their limited budgets, Gotō's films have much higher production values than most Pink entries, and here he proves a deft storyteller, imbuing his seemingly deranged narrative with humour, warmth and touching performances. The film is one of the most highly regarded among Pink film aficianados. The digital presentation here represents the best quality materials available.
