        Overview

At the height of the Mexican Revolution, a gang of bandits led by the charismatic El Chuncho (a mesmerising Gian Maria Volonté) are stealing weapons to sell on to rebel 'General' Elias. During a raid on a train, a mysterious gringo, Tate (Lou Castel), assists the bandits by killing the train driver. Chuncho takes instant liking to Tate who insinuates himself into the gang.

Volonté and co-writer Franco Solinas (The Battle of Algiers) were key figures of 60s Italian political cinema, making Damiano Damiani’s a more political example of the Zapata Westerns, being interpreted by some critics as an allegory of CIA intervention in Latin America.
