Bretten Hannam’s impressive feature debut focuses on a Canadian teenager’s search for his family history.

Link does his best to protect his younger half-brother Travis from their father’s violent rages. But one night he discovers a dark family secret and, taking his brother with him, runs away from home. On the road, they meet a gentle stranger, Pasmay, who puts his own life on hold to help Link explore his maternal Mi’kmaw heritage. Part road movie, part family mystery, this is a beautiful coming-of-age portrayal of Two-Spirit teenagers.
