The Way We Talk
The complex lives of three young deaf people are explored in all their intricacies in this superbly performed drama, set in Hong Kong.
Overview
Known for his popular films on youth culture, Adam Wong brings us close to the lives of three deaf twenty-somethings finding their feet. Each character uses a different way to communicate and navigate their ‘deaf identity’, while the film also interrogates societal norms and reimagines possible alternative linguistic identities.
Based on long-term research and utilising a collaborative approach, Wong’s seventh feature, which premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in 2024, is a moving portrait of friendship and belonging.
